Port Ministry: Seafaring is very nearly solitary confinement
with just a few hours’ opportunity between voyages to re-connect with
the world ashore
Urban Ministry: Ironically, it’s easy to become lost
and alone in a megalopolis if you’re a domestic violence victim, a visiting
family member of a hospitalized patient or a stranded traveler.
Guesthouse: In midtown Manhattan, our guesthouse is a refuge for seafarers and
sojourners, as well as a gathering place for clergy, church members and community
groups.

Thus the Lord God showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit. And he said, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A basket of fruit.” Then the Lord said to me, “The end has come upon my people Israel; I will never again pass by them.” (Amos 8:1-2) The scripture continues with a recitation of how the ancient Israelites strayed from their God in pursuit of economic gain, in ways distressingly similar to recent financial practices and dealings. In the wake of the 2008 recession, the poor and needy, those ashore and those at sea, are powerless, nearly forgotten and all but enslaved for a pair of sandals. Lord, throughout this season of Pentecost, help us to receive your Holy Spirit and share your love in numerous ways with numerous peoples throughout the world, taking care always to see that no one is left unattended or unwanted.
